HISTORIC VICTORY FOR AYR DENTS TITLE DREAMS OF HIGHLANDERS

-

AYR UNITED claimed victory away to Inverness Caley Thistle for the first time in 19 years and dented the Highlanders’ title prospects.

Goals from Sean McGinty and Tomi Adeloye helped The Honest Men to a 2-1 success, their first win at the Caledonian Stadium since 2003 and moved Lee Bullen’s side up to seventh in the table.

Lewis Nicolson scored a late consolation for Billy Dodds’ men, who are now without a win in nine matches.

Caley Thistle, who had David Carson sent off late on for two bookable offences, remain third in the table but are seven points adrift of pacesetters Arbroath and Kilmarnock.

Dick Campbell’s side remain the league leaders on goal difference after being held 0-0 away to basement club Queen of the South. Queens had the majority of the chances in Willie Gibson’s first game in charge of the Doonhamers.

The point moves Queens to within three points of second-bottom Dunfermline.

Hamilton took another significant stride towards safety with a 1-0 success at home to Morton.

Stuart Taylor’s sixth-placed Accies have only lost one of their last seven games and Lewis Spence’s 47th-minute goal proved to be the difference. Dougie Imrie’s Morton are now in eighth place and are four points clear of Dunfermline. lFIRST-HALF goals from Abi Harrison and Martha Thomas earned Scotland Women a 2-0 win over Slovakia in the Pinatar Cup in Spain.
