Peaky Blinders
BBC1, 9pm
It’s been three years since we last saw Brummie gang leader Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy, right) and his cronies on our screens, and in that time we’ve had to bid farewell to crime-world matriarch Polly after the death of Helen McCrory.
But now the saga resumes for a final six-part series. There’s so much to be resolved before the end, but the opening episode begins in 1933, as Shelby decides it’s time to branch out after the end of prohibition into the increasingly attractive business of selling opium in the US.
That means dealing with some unsavoury new characters on the other side of the Atlantic, while still struggling to survive the threat of both the IRA and Oswald Mosley and his fascists.
As moody and magnificent as ever, this is set to go out on a high worthy of one of the greatest shows of recent times. ★★★★★
