Cryptocurrency was until recently the stuff of science-fiction, but as this report reveals, it is now a reality that has brought dreams of unimaginable wealth to far-flung corners of the planet. In Thailand there is an extraordinary boom, attracting not only the young and technologically savvy but also farmers to pursuing a fortune.

At the heart of the growing industry is the founder of Bitkub, the largest exchange dedicated to cryptocurrency. Educated in Britain and aged only 31, Topp Jirayut Srupsrisopa (right) is already a wealthy man, his company's worth estimated at $1billion.

But as reporter Jonathan Miller journeys from Bangkok to the rice paddy fields, he finds there are also victims of this boom who have lost the little they had on a quest to make millions. It's an eye-opening glimpse of the way technology is changing the world at breakneck speed. ★★★★★
