Torment of the Ukraine WAGs f leeing their homes – just eight months after Euros jaunt

THE wife of the Ukrainian national football team captain revealed her horror after being forced to flee from her home in war-ravaged Kyiv.

Yulia Pyatova, who is married to goalkeeper Andriy Pyatov, posted a heart-wrenching message on her Instagram account where she begged for the war to end and told of her desperatio­n to return.

The mother-of-four, whose husband also captains Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk, wrote: ‘We are forced to leave our home. It’s unbearably painful – I wanna go home! Please. Stop this war! One schizophre­nic just keeps the whole world in fear. How can this be forgiven?’

Just eight months ago she shared on social media her glamorous journey to Rome with fellow WAGs ahead of Ukraine’s defeat by England in the Euro 2020 tournament.

At the time she posted various photograph­s around the Italian capital, including one of herself drinking a cocktail.

Yesterday Ms Pyatova, who did not reveal where the family had fled to, told of her sorrow that her eldest daughter Daryna would have to celebrate her 16th birthday during the war.

Another of the footballer­s’ wives to share her torment of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine was Tania Makarenko, the wife of Yevhenii Makarenko, who plays in defence for the Ukraine national team and Hungarian league team Fehervar FC.

and daughter Emi. Alongside a photograph of her embracing the toddlers, Ms Makarenko wrote the heart-breaking message: ‘All I want is to hug you. God, why! Why do people suffer?

‘Oh my God why? Why do people suffer… It is an unbearable pain – separation from children. It’s all hell, it’s a nightmare!’

Marharyta Stepanenko, who is married to Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Taras Stepanenko, also shared her torment with a social media post which translated as ‘there’s no place like home’.

It is not known whether she has been evacuated from her home, but she and her husband and three sons live in Kyiv.

Two weeks ago, as the war began to take hold of her home city, she posted a photograph of the Ukrainian flag, writing: ‘The most native Ukraine! Hold on, Native! You are strong.’ Yesterday, Ms Stepanenko posted a picture of a yellow buttercup against a blue sky as a nod to the colours of the Ukraine flag.

In a caption to mark a fortnight of fighting, she wrote: ‘How much pain in 2 weeks.’

All three women have been vocal is supporting Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky.
