You might think that the slower pace of life on Britain’s inland waterways would make it ideal for those escaping the rat race. However, it’s not without its stresses and strains, as Robbie Cumming discovers while journeying 170 miles across northern England. He begins in Wigan, but is soon beset by propeller problems before running aground in Blackburn while en route to Burnley. ★★★★★
