A required read on Russia

Peter Hitchens’s excellent column about events leading up to the war in Ukraine should be compulsory reading for any politician pontificating on the current situation. Though it is important to condemn Vladimir Putin’s actions, the issue isn’t as black and white as many would like us to believe.

I was pleasantly surprised to see Peter Hitchens not preaching ‘it’s Russian so we must ban it’. I’m all for targeting those who openly support Putin, but the blanket ban probably hurts ordinary, powerless Russian people.

Peter Hitchens is completely wrong. Has he forgotten how the Soviet Union treated Ukraine? It’s hardly surprising that those in Eastern European states are either glad to be in Nato or want to be part of it.
