LATE SLIP COSTS THISTLE

- By James Melville

MORTON came from behind to deal a huge blow to the title hopes of Partick Thistle at Cappielow yesterday.

A win for third-placed Thistle would have moved Ian McCall’s side just five points off leaders Kilmarnock with a game in hand and the visitors got off to the perfect start on five minutes.

Alex Jakubiak pikced out Kyle Turner to tap the ball home at the back post to give Thistle the lead. Brian Graham headed over the bar before the break but Morton rallied in the second half.

Gavin Reilly slammed home the equaliser for Dougie Imrie’s side after Thistle goalkeeper Jamie Sneddon saved a closerange effort from Lewis McGrattan.

Morton turned the game around with four minutes remaining. Thistle’s defence were caught cold by a ball over the top and Gozie Ugwu’s low pass found Robbie Muirhead, who slotted home. The win lifts Morton up to sixth spot.
