Scots L-drivers safest

-

LEARNER drivers in Scotland are the least accident prone in Britain and the least likely to crash during a lesson, a survey has found.

Provisional licence holders in a string of English towns had more accidents during lessons than learner drivers north of the Border.

Researchers compared road crash data with the number of learners in UK towns.

And in a list of the worst 20 places in Britain, only Dundee made an appearance, coming ninth. However, the Tayside city saw just eight accidents per 10,000 learners.

In Colchester, Essex, 46,424 learners had 117 crashes – 25 for every 10,000 learners – making it the most dangerous place in Britain to have a driving lesson.

South of the Border, the least likely learners to crash come from Cambridge, Blackpool, Doncaster, Torquay, Hereford and Walsall with just four crashes per 10,000 learners.
