Look who’s keeping an eye on his every move!

WATCHING carefully over Rishi Sunak’s every move in his No 11 office is the unmistakable figure of Nigel Lawson – complete with Budget Day red box.

A photo of the imposing Thatcher-era Chancellor, who was in post for six years from 1983, looks out over Mr Sunak’s desk.

Speaking to The Mail on Sunday last year, Mr Sunak said he had spoken to all his predecessors, adding: ‘They’re all very kind privately with their advice and support. I am keen always to try to get advice and support from people, they have done the job before me.’

Tax-cutting Tories will surely hope that of all the former Chancellors, it’s 90-year-old Lord Lawson, famous for slashing tax rates in the 1980s and creating ‘The Lawson Boom’ in the economy, who most has Mr Sunak’s ear.
