Pilgrimage: The Road To The Scottish Isles
BBC2, 9pm
As we approach Easter, some well-known faces of various faiths make a journey that harks back to the roots of Christianity in the British Isles. Born in Ireland, St Columba is credited with bringing his faith to the people of Scotland in the 6th Century.
The pilgrimage will take the celebrities from Columba’s birthplace and through the places of his life, around Ireland and Northern Ireland and across to Scotland, with the final destination his celebrated monastery on the island of Iona.
There’s about a thousand miles to cover on foot, by road and sea over 15 days – a lot of walking for the celebrities (from left, Monty Panesar, Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, Nick Hewer, Scarlett Moffatt, Will Bayley, Shazia Mirza and Louisa Clein). The idyllic, if rainy, scenery is a fine backdrop for some lively spiritual discussion. ★★★★☆
