Goodwin rages as Adam makes his mark for Dens men

- By Neil Robertson

ABERDEEN boss Jim Goodwin was left raging over the lead-up to Dundee’s first goal after his team’s top-six ambitions suffered another blow.

The Dons were leading through Calvin Ramsay’s first strike for the club but the hosts equalised thanks to Jordan McGhee’s header just after the hour mark.

Goodwin claimed his team should have been awarded a free-kick when Dundee captain Charlie Adam — who had just come on as a substitute — appeared to catch Lewis Ferguson with an arm. Adam rubbed salt into the wounds by delivering a set-piece moments later which led to McGhee making it 1-1.

Ross McCrorie looked to have won the game for Aberdeen but Adam swung in another free-kick for Danny Mullen to make it 2-2 with four minutes left

‘We deserved to win the game,’ said Goodwin, whose side must beat Ross County at Pittodrie this week and hope other results go their way if they are to reach the top six. ‘Credit to Dundee, they kept going. But I do have serious questions about the first Dundee goal as Charlie Adam caught Lewis Ferguson in the face with a flailing arm before the freekick. John Beaton has to see it. It’s a simple decision and a free-kick for us.

‘Five seconds later, Dundee get the foul and then it ends up in the back of our net.

‘I don’t understand how he missed it as he has the best view on the pitch.

‘It should have been a freekick and possibly a yellow card. People will say I am making excuses but I can only call it as I see it.

‘Thereafter we have to defend the free-kick better. We don’t deal with the cross into the box. We know the quality Charlie has but we don’t deal with it.

‘The second one is the same. Charlie takes the nudge from Marley Watkins and goes over easily — but again puts in a fantastic delivery.’

Dundee manager Mark McGhee praised his players’ resilience — but they now lie six points below St Johnstone at the bottom of the Premiership. He said: ‘We deserved the point. I think we made it difficult for ourselves, going behind a couple of times, but we showed great resilience and great determination.

‘It gives us great hope going into the last six games.

‘Charlie was ill last weekend, he had gastroenteritis. He took himself to the hospital at one point. He’d had an injury before that and hadn’t trained.

‘So I didn’t really hold any hope that he was going to take any part today.’
