KIRK: 700 AWAY SUPPORTERS AT THE OLD FIRM DERBY ISN’T GREAT... BUT IT’S A START

- By Graeme Croser

KIRK BROADFOOT has known few better feelings than rushing to celebrate a goal with his Rangers team-mates in front of 8,000 away supporters at Celtic Park.

That’s why the former Ibrox defender is sad such a small number of visiting supporters will be in attendance for the two remaining league derbies this season.

Having struggled to gain the upper hand in derby fixtures following promotion to the top tier in 2016, Rangers took the decision to cut Celtic’s allocation two years later, a move that was reciprocated.

Only 700 Celtic fans will be inside Ibrox to witness today’s derby clash — and while Broadfoot hopes his former club can use that to their advantage, he craves a return to a more equitable split.

He said: ‘As a Rangers player, there was no better feeling than scoring at Parkhead and then running off to celebrate with 8,000 Rangers fans in the corner.

‘I’m sure the Celtic fans would say the same — when the whole Broomloan Stand is full of Celtic fans it does make for good noise.

‘With 700 in the corner, it’s just not the same. I’m obviously glad it will work in Rangers’ favour this weekend. But I would like to see it go back to the way it was.

‘I think it needs to happen for the sake of the atmosphere and I would like to see that change soon.’
