BORISWATCH

Spied at a Sussex nature reserve on a glorious spring day, the lesser spotted (but still suited) PM and family at play

THE political waters may have been choppy of late for Boris Johnson, but it was all plain sailing when he took his family on a £3-a-head boat safari in a West Sussex nature reserve.

Not renowned for his sartorial style, Mr Johnson rather awkwardly turned out in a suit jacket for the visit to the Arundel Wetland Centre with wife Carrie, 34, and their two children, Wilfred, one, and four-month-old Romy.

As our exclusive pictures show, the family chose a beautiful spring day beneath clear blue skies to climb aboard a motorboat and explore the 60-acre reserve which is home to little grebes and water voles.

Onlookers said the Prime Minister – whose famously unruly locks are these days outdone by his son’s mop of curly blond hair – was every inch the doting dad. While Carrie, wearing a

green jacket and black trousers, cuddled dark-haired Romy in a baby carrier, Mr Johnson, 57, took charge of the nappy bag and Wilfred.

Tim McGregor, who manages the centre, told The Mail on Sunday: ‘I thought it was very healthy that he found time to do dad things – and I think he did “dad” really well. He was very similar to what you see on TV, enthusiastic, but he was focused on his children. It was very low-key.’

Someone who saw the family boat trip late last month said: ‘The guide was pointing out the ducklings to Boris and his family as they got on the boat. At one point, Boris lay down and Wilfred climbed on his back.’

In November the Prime Minister and the then pregnant Carrie took Wilfred to Peppa Pig World in Hampshire where they went on the Grampy Rabbit’s Sailing Club boat ride. The following day, Mr Johnson raised eyebrows by extolling the attraction’s virtues during a shambolic speech to the CBI.
