Dinosaurs: The Final Day With David Attenborough
BBC1, 6.30pm
You may never have heard of Tanis in the hills of North Dakota in the US, but for palaeontologists the site is one of the richest treasure troves ever found. It contains an extraordinary number of superbly preserved fossils from the late Cretaceous period – including remains from when an asteroid larger than Everest hit Earth 66 million years ago, causing such devastation across the planet that dinosaurs quickly became extinct.
Now this feature-length documentary, three years in the making, reveals astonishing finds and uses state-of-theart computer animation to recreate what is thought to have happened on that apocalyptic day. Narrated by Sir David Attenborough (right), it’s an inspiring example of science programme-making at its very best. ★★★★★
