MAXWELL BANKS ON A GAME OF PATIENCE

- By Gary Heatly

SCOTLAND scrum-half Jenny Maxwell believes they can cause France problems in today clash at Scotstoun — if the can show patience when attacking.

The Scots go into the TikTok Women’s Six Nations encounter winless after an opening home loss to England and then an agonising 24-19 reverse in Wales last Saturday.

In contrast, France, who are third in the world rankings, have scored a total of 79 points to secure bonus-point triumphs over Italy and Ireland so far in the competition.

And the visitors will start as strong favourites today against ninth in the world Scotland.

However, the Scots will take confidence from the last time France were in Glasgow in 2020, when the hosts impressed in a 13-13 draw.

Head coach Bryan Easson said: ‘We have shown of late that we are able to play through multiple phases and keep pressure on teams.’

Loughborough Lightning player Maxwell, who is set to win cap number 39 today, added: ‘That is something we worked really hard on during our successful World Cup qualifying campaign and leading into this Six Nations.

‘Having the patience to keep the ball in the right areas of the field and building through the phases is important.

‘We know we can pull the trigger and score tries on the edges through the likes of Rhona (Lloyd) and others.

‘If you keep the pressure on teams, it is hard for them not to give penalties away, so we need to try to keep France under pressure.

‘As a backs unit, we have been looking at how we can be more clinical in the wide channels and how we can hurt teams there.

‘And the players are looking forward to being back at home, that always gives us a boost.’
