In the first film, also directed by Joanna Hogg, Julie (Honor Swinton Byrne, above right), a privileged young film student, is romantical­ly involved with a privileged junkie. It’s a toxic relationsh­ip. That’s about it. Critics adored it. This follow-up continues the story, with Julie grieving the death of her heroin-addict ex-boyfriend. RUSSIAN DOLL NETFLIX DRAMA

In the first season of the comedy drama, Nadia (Natasha Lyonne, right) kept reliving the same night up to the point at which she died. She befriended Alan (Charlie Barnett), who was having the same experience. Series two is set four years later, when Nadia and Alan delve deeper into their pasts through a time portal found in one of Manhattan’s most notorious locations. At first they experience this as an ever-expanding adventure, but then they have to search for a way out.

It’s been almost two years since the end of the previous season and Odenkirk suffered a heart attack while filming this one, so it’s a very welcome return for the series, which is to be split into two parts.
