The presenter (above) is used to meeting people who live off-grid, but he's probably never been anywhere quite like Slab City, a community in the Sonoran desert in California. Some of its residents claim it's the ‘last free place in America', where they can embrace an alternative lifestyle, but as Fogle discovers, it also has no mains water, electricity, sewer or rubbish collection. ★★★★☆
