Euro trips key to keeping Charles-Cook for Malky

- By Graeme Croser

MALKY MACKAY is hoping the lure of European football could yet persuade the Premiership’s top scorer to remain at Ross County.

The 13 goals scored by Regan Charles-Cook have been crucial in helping the Highlanders climb into the top six but the 25-year-old is out of contract in the summer. Aberdeen and Hibernian have both been linked with the Grenada international winger but Mackay hasn’t abandoned hope of retaining his services for next term.

County are about to embark on a three-way fight with Dundee

United and Motherwell for fourth place in the league, a position that will guarantee European football for next season.

Mackay expects Charles-Cook to be a key figure in that pursuit, and knows a successful outcome might be his only hope of keeping his star player.

The County boss said: ‘Who knows? The more attractive we can become, the more he might have something to think about when he decides his next move.

‘It’s not just about where you go but why. I have had conversations with him about that and he is going to have decisions to make over the next couple of months. He will have offers, of course.’
