Rose won’t let time stand still!

- By John Dingwall and Ashlie McAnally

SHE made her name in the historical drama Downton Abbey but Rose Leslie’s new role tackles the past, present and future too.

The Aberdeen-born actress, 35, stars in HBO’s television adaptation of the novel The Time Traveler’s Wife, which airs next month.

She plays Clare, a woman coming to terms with a fragmented relationship caused by her lover Henry – played by former Downton star Theo James – who has a condition that forces him to move randomly back and forward through time. Flame-haired Miss Leslie’s breakthrough role was as Gwen Dawson, a housemaid who elevates her status in life by taking a job as a secretary and marrying the trustee of a college in the first series of Downton, while James played a Turkish diplomat, Kemal Pamuk, in one episode.

Of course, romantic leads are nothing new to Miss Leslie, who found true love in real life while making Game of Thrones.

Having played the wildling Ygritte in the fantasy epic, she went on to marry Jon Snow, or rather actor Kit Harington, at her ancestral Scottish home in 2018.

The couple celebrated the birth of a son last year.

In the 2014 psychological thriller Honeymoon, in which things are not what they seem, she played a loved-up newlywed opposite her co-star Harry Treadaway.

More recently, in the BBC’s Trident submarine thriller Vigil, her character finds herself in a clinch with a police detective played by Suranne Jones.

She also stars as French maid Louise Bourget in Kenneth Branagh’s remake of Agatha Christie’s Death on the Nile.
