COVID ABSENCE RULES EASE

-

COVID curbs on pupils with symptoms will be eased as exams get underway.

Since the start of the pandemic, children with respiratory infection symptoms have had to selfisolate immediately and take a PCR test.

But from next week youngsters are being told they need only stay at home ‘if they have a high temperature and feel unwell’.

That means exam candidates sitting National 5s, Highers and Advanced Highers will not have to call off sick because of mild coughs or sneezing.

Last night the Scottish Government confirmed the change will take effect from May 1.

A spokesman said: ‘Children and young people with mild symptoms such as a runny nose, sore throat or slight cough, who are otherwise well, can continue to attend their education setting.’
