The man who injected his own urine

-

A MAN almost died after injecting himself with his own urine.

The 38-year-old livestock inspector was admitted to hospital in the Tamil Nadu region of India after suffering a series of seizures. He had polymicrobial sepsis, an often fatal condition where multiple infections cause the immune system to attack healthy tissue.

The clinicians, who published their findings in the Journal of Global Infectious diseases, couldn’t work out the cause. However, 11 days after going into hospital, the man admitted injecting urine – a form of alternative medicine in India said to help conditions from impotence to cancer.

The doctors believe bacteria in the man’s urine was to blame for his infections. He recovered after antibiotics.
