Maloney more suited to a pundit’s chair than Hibs hotseat
SHAUN MALONEY was an interesting choice as Hibs boss. He had coached at a high level and definitely knows his stuff.
Indeed, it is to be hoped this period of resting between jobs leads to a return to the TV studio for the cerebral 39-year-old — because he is as informative a pundit as there is.
Sadly, though, he has shown that football management is about more than just being a student of what occurs between the white lines. It’s about character, personality, politics, thick skin and that instinctive quality of being able to take dressing rooms with you.
It’s only for certain types — and his ill-fated tenure at Easter Road, despite the sale of Martin Boyle, injury to Kevin Nisbet and the whims of Hibs chief Ron Gordon, suggests Maloney simply isn’t one of them.
