Kirk Douglas (above) is at his most intense in John Sturges’ western. He plays lawman Matt Morgan, who seeks revenge after the rape and murder of his wife. Recognising a saddle left behind by the killers, Morgan confronts his old friend, cattle rancher Craig Belden (Anthony Quinn). ★★★★☆
