Scooter cowboys putting lives at risk
We are living in unprecedented times where much of the world enjoys unregulated access to ridiculously fast electric scooters, as revealed in last week’s Mail on Sunday.
Tali Fraser’s investigation into ‘high street cowboys’ who remove scooter speed restrictions proved that some manufacturers are cashing in without paying any regard to public health and safety.
People are paying backroom workshops to make their scooters travel at 40mph and sometimes even 60mph, but surely all one needs is for it to go uphill or handle bumpier terrain than a normal scooter.
The fact that there were 11 fatalities linked to e-scooters last year alone proves that they should be regulated like motorcycles, and it should be the law to wear a helmet when riding one. I see countless people riding them recklessly, including three on a scooter at once, so it’s no wonder people are getting hurt.
What happens if riders make a wrong turn? And there’s a risk they could be intoxicated, so can they be breathalysed?
Personally, I would rather wait an hour for a bus than get hurt travelling on an e-scooter.
