Callum has missed his chance to move on up

-

CALLUM DAVIDSON should have capitalised on winning two cups with St Johnstone and engineered a move last summer.

A year on, with players who look like they’ve chucked it at a club drifting badly, how he must realise the mistake he made. St Johnstone’s first-half display at Dundee last weekend was disgraceful. It sounds like yesterday’s loss to St Mirren was worse.

So much has gone wrong at Saints that Davidson is not accountable for. Key players left and recruitment has been atrocious despite money rolling in. You need to cash in when your ticket is hot, though, and Davidson didn’t.

Despite a long contract and a new head of operations above him, the manager is stuck with fans on his case and players he can’t motivate. He deserves flak, but chairman Steve Brown, wisely stepping away from day-to-day duties, has lots to answer for, too.

He’s certainly played his part in helping turn Davidson from hot property to a guy going nowhere.
