OUR 2,000-MILE MERCY MISSION

-

THE delivery of life-saving food boxes to the front line in Ukraine marks the culmination of an astonishing 2,000-mile mercy mission. More than 2,400 boxes were packed at a warehouse near Leicester on April 11, ahead of a 63-hour journey in a 44-ton truck to a secret depot in Poland. On April 19 they were stacked inside a shipping container, then driven by lorry to an isolated rail freight station in southern Poland. There they were loaded on to a train to Ukraine, but missile attacks on the rail network delayed its progress. Our boxes were finally unloaded at an aid hub in northern Ukraine last week. Next day, 300 of them were driven by minibus to the village of Mezenivka.
