Hometown glory fades for Adele as she turns back on London for LA life

-

SHE kickstarted her career by writing a love song to London for her first hit, Hometown Glory, when she was just 16 – but it looks like Adele is set to quit the UK for good.

Despite the pop superstar making Los Angeles her permanent base six years ago, she has until now kept her neighbouring houses in Kensington, West London – even applying for planning permission in 2019 to turn them into a mega-mansion.

However, since the 34-year-old split from her entrepreneur husband Simon Konecki that same year, the properties have remained untouched.

Last week, in a clear sign the singer is cutting ties with the UK, her planning permission expired, three years to the day of the council’s approval notice.

It’s safe to say that Adele is fully focused on life in California.

Not only is her relationship with her LAbased boyfriend, sports agent Rich Paul, getIf ting more serious by the day, but her son Angelo, nine, is happily settled in the US school system. Adele herself has alluded to the fact that her London days are long gone, saying last year that she’s more amenable to the al fresco way of life and that she wanted to live in a place where there was ‘fresh air and somewhere I could see the sky’. The singer bought her two London properties in 2012 and 2013 for £5.65million and £5.38million. Her plans to combine them into one mega-mansion were to be carried out by Elston Developments Ltd and architect Michaelis Boyd Associates, whose clients include Soho House and Michelin-starred chef Tom Aikens.

However, Adele never followed through with her plans, with neighbours claiming that they’ve never actually seen the singer set foot on their private road.

The white window shutters have been closed for months in the same position, and there has been no sign of cleaners or maintenance staff attending to the property. she does flog her Kensington home, she still owns a property in Battersea, South London, which she has had for the past 13 years and keeps with her mother Penny – but her portfolio Stateside continues to grow at warp speed.

At the last count, the singer owned three mansions on the same private road in Beverly Hills, worth a combined £25 million.

With so many luxury options at close hand, can you blame her for waving goodbye to her hometown for good?
