Now Starmer must pay price for hypocrisy

-

Full marks to The Mail on Sunday’s journalists who last week obtained a secret Labour Party document, which appeared to shatter Sir

Keir Starmer’s version of events over Beergate.

While both Partygate and Beergate are insignificant in the great scheme of things, skewering Labour’s hypocrisy is very satisfying.

David Hicks, Chipping Norton

If Starmer is fined by the police for breaking lockdown rules, he should resign. However, that would leave Boris Johnson with no alternative but to resign also since he could hardly justify keeping his job under those circumstances.

Anthony Carr, Sompting, West Sussex

Now that Starmer has upped the ante by promising to resign if he is issued with a fixed penalty notice from Durham Police, can there be a much-needed moratorium on this story? However, if he is vindicated, surely his revenge will be a beer served ice-cold, from a pub in Westminster.

Judith Daniels, Great Yarmouth

Maybe now that Keir Starmer has evened things up by having his own lockdown party, he will stop backbiting about the parties in No10 – and they can all get on with running this country.

J. Redshaw, Middlesbrough

Yet more incriminating revelations regarding Beergate, with denial after denial by those involved. It just shows the continuing, seemingly endless, contempt the Members of Parliament have for the electorate. With so many scandals and such rulebreaking associated with the behaviour of our MPs, how can we respect them?

Harry Coops, Manchester

Might the reason for an eagerness to prosecute the Prime Minister for the birthday party, and reluctance to prosecute the Opposition Party leader for his beer and curry party, be that Labour-sponsored Police and Crime Commissioners run both Police Authorities? That could also explain why the forced decision to reopen the Beergate case was delayed until after the council elections.

Roy Daniels, Luton

To put all of this nonsense to bed, could I suggest that any politician (or member of the media!) who never broke any of the Covid rules stands up to be counted? It won’t take long!
