ROSE RISE AS COWDEN DROP OUT OF SPFL

-

BONNYRIGG ROSE are celebrating becoming the SPFL’s newest members after their play-off victory consigned Cowdenbeath to relegation from League Two.

The Lowland League champions were already three goals to the good after a controversial first leg and never looked like allowing that decisive advantage to slip through their grasp.

Neil Martyniuk’s penalty in the second half removed any doubt over the outcome as Cowdenbeath made it third time unlucky following two previous play-off escapes.

‘I’m just over the moon for the players, who have been outstanding since the first day of the season,’ said Bonnyrigg manager Robbie Horn. ‘It is a special day for everyone at the club and the memories of today will last for a lifetime.’

The Blue Brazil played in hope more than belief as 117 years of league history was relinquished with a whimper.

‘Year after year we have found ourselves in the same situation,’ said manager Maurice Ross.

‘You have to change what you are doing. If you don’t change, the inevitable happens.’
