McGhee won’t be missed but Dens men need more change

-

MARK McGHEE’S talk of somehow staying on after taking Dundee down was always just more pie-in-thesky codswallop.

Even his old pal Gordon Strachan, now director of football, wouldn’t have had the brass neck to try and pull that one off.

What McGhee did have to say about what needs done at Dens next, though, was uncharacteristically illuminating.

He talks of a club requiring a scientific approach rather than everything ‘just being a bit random’. He talks about the need for people ‘doing jobs they are qualified to do’. He says ‘even the building is fragmented with people scattered right throughout the place’.

His words raise many questions. Can these changes really be implemented by the same people who have been in the door for some time? What was McGhee ever doing in the door at all?

The biggest one of all, however, is this. How can a top-division outfit slide into such a state in the first place?
