He had flaws, but Boris was never boring
I thought Andrew Roberts’s open letter to Boris Johnson in last week’s Mail on Sunday was wellwritten, considered and intelligent.
Every politician’s career ends in failure, but Boris will never be forgotten, unlike those who are lining up to replace him.
Yes, he is a flawed individual, but he is also good politician with a fine mind, guts and resilience.
It is incredible that he was felled by a relatively unknown idiot at the Carlton Club.

Boris fought for Britain through a series of unprecedented situations – Brexit and Covid – and is to be commended for that.

There are people who love Boris and people who loathe him.
I think it was a sad day when he was forced out. He’s human and relates to people, which I think is a rare trait. All the other MPs are stuffy and boring – at least Boris has a sense of fun about him.

Only a man could get away with Boris’s louche, narcissistic, clownish behaviour. And only a man could write about him so reverently.
Sarah Mitchell, London
I’m well aware that Boris behaved in an unacceptable way during his time at No10 but, without exception, Tony Blair was the worst, most duplicitous, appalling Prime Minister the UK has had the misfortune to put up with.

Calling Boris Johnson a ‘great leader’ is just hilarious.
Since the start of the year he had been averaging one to two scandals a week, and he was worse than useless.
B. Jones, London
Boris was the king of the photo opportunity and far more concerned with his own PR than getting down to the difficult details of running the country.
C. Anderson, Chichester
The kindest way in which Boris Johnson will be painted is as yet another deposed leader of a party torn apart by its preoccupation with Europe.
Sam Harrison, Sydney, Australia
The continual persecution of
Boris Johnson, led by the BBC, has been totally obscene.
Boris has been portrayed as a villain while Rishi Sunak, who, in my opinion, has done far more to harm us all – and was fined exactly the same as Boris for exactly the same party – is being portrayed as suitable to be the next Prime Minister.
Tom Smith, London
I doubt all those families who are grieving the unnecessary deaths of their loved ones due to Boris’s total incompetence during the pandemic will remember him as a great leader.
