EVEN the most avid observer of the Wagatha Christie saga could hardly have expected a second act. But following the courtroom confrontation between Rebekah Vardy and Coleen Rooney, a film war of the WAGs is about to break out.

After revealing that Mrs Rooney has signed up for a Netflix documentary about the lengthy legal battle, The Mail on Sunday has discovered that the BBC has commissioned a programme featuring the Vardy camp’s perspective on the affair.

The programme will be made by Londonbased production company Curious Films, whose previous credits include the documentary Caroline Flack: Her Life & Death and Reclaiming Amy, a film featuring singer Amy Winehouse’s parents that marked the tenth anniversary of her death.

A source said: ‘The programme will tell the story about Coleen and Rebekah. It is expected to look very much at the social media aspect of it and how Rebekah was trolled by others.

‘It will have a very worthy approach and will feature members of the Vardy camp and, hopefully, Rebekah. The BBC have already commissioned it and filming is due to start in the coming weeks.’

Mrs Rooney, 36, is working with Dorothy Street Pictures – the company behind the much-anticipated Pamela Anderson documentary – for her Netflix documentary.

Sources close to the project say it will be ‘classy and speak from the heart’. It comes after Wayne Rooney’s wife took to social media in October 2019 to allege that leaked stories about her had originated from Mrs Vardy’s Instagram account.

During a High Court hearing in May, evidence about the world of the WAGs emerged and Rebekah, 40 – who is married to Leicester City star Jamie Vardy – admitted that her agent Caroline Watt may have been the source of the leaks.

Mrs Vardy was also accused by Mrs Rooney’s lawyer, David Sherborne, of deliberately destroying evidence – which she furiously denied.

Judgment on the case, in which Mrs Vardy is suing her rival for libel, has been reserved until later this year.

Mrs Rooney’s allegation about the leaks came after she turned sleuth to discover the source of several newspaper stories.

In a strategy that earned her the Wagatha Christie sobriquet, she blocked all but one of her followers from seeing her Instagram account and posted fake stories that subsequently appeared in The Sun.

Another production company, Optomen Television, is also making a programme about the case, although it is understood neither WAG will appear in it.
