Conte tells Bayern boss: ‘Hands off Harry’ and insists star is not for sale

- By Gary Keown

SPURS boss Antonio Conte last night hit out at Bayern Munich head coach Julian Nagelsmann for talking about his admiration for Harry Kane — and insisted he is in no mood to sell off the England captain.

Reports in Germany state the Bundesliga champions may attempt to snare Kane as a replacement for Robert Lewandowski after making representations to the 28-year-old’s camp.

Nagelsmann, talking on Friday during his club’s United States tour, described the price tag involved as ‘a problem’ even though Kane would take the Bundesliga by storm.

However, in the wake of yesterday’s 2-1 friendly win over Rangers at Ibrox, in which Kane scored twice in the second half, Conte (pictured) expressed his distaste for rival managers talking about rival players.

‘Honestly, I did not hear this,’ said the Italian of Nagelsmann’s remarks. ‘For sure, I am a coach that does not speak about other players at other teams.

‘I don’t know why. The situation with Tottenham is very clear. The plan is very clear with the club. He (Kane) is a part of the project, an important part of the project.

‘At the same time, I don’t like to speak about the players of other clubs.

‘If I want to do something, I’ll go and speak with the club and not go through the media. Maybe it is a little disrespectful for the other club. This is my way of dealing with the situation with other players.’

Kane has two years left on his current contract following the breakdown of a proposed move to Manchester City last summer and there is talk of a new deal being placed on the table to keep him long-term in London.

However, despite signing Sadio Mane from Liverpool, there are suggestions Bayern are also looking for a centre-forward after seeing Lewandowski leave for Barcelona.

Nagelsmann said: ‘He (Kane) is very expensive. That’s the problem — but brilliant player. One of two or three who can play as a centre-forward (as well as a) No10, but he’s very strong, brilliant with (his) head and both feet.

‘He could score a lot in the Bundesliga. I don’t know the price, but it’s really tough for Bayern Munich. We’ll see what happens in the future.’

Rangers took the lead in the 24th minute of yesterday’s showdown in Glasgow for the Walter Tull Memorial Cup through

Croatian striker Antonio Colak, but Kane struck twice in five second-half minutes to turn the game on its head.

His first on 51 minutes was a stunning effort from the left side of the area that left Rangers keeper Allan McGregor helpless, while his second was a clinical low finish from a Son Heung-Min assist.

Conte kept his summer signings on the bench, but introduced Richarlison, Djed Spence, Ivan Perisic, Clement Lenglet, Fraser Forster and Yves Bissouma in the second 45.

‘The game wasn’t a friendly game. It was a real game,’ said Conte. ‘Rangers are in

front of us in terms of fitness, but we played with good intensity, pressure and quality.

‘We created a lot of chances to score. ’
