Wright: We want to hit new heights in Europe

- By Graeme Croser

SCOTT WRIGHT insists Rangers must ditch the memories of last season’s European success as they strive for a place in the Champions League.

A key part of the squad that reached the Europa League final, Wright started against Eintracht Frankfurt in Seville.

Now his sights are firmly set on UEFA’s top competition and the two-legged tie with PSV Eindhoven that stands in Rangers’ path.

He said: ‘We had such a great run but that was last year, so that is kind of parked now.

‘We don’t want to keep thinking about that, we want to be playing in the Champions League.’

Speaking after yesterday’s

4-0 win over St Johnstone, Wright insisted the team is determined to break new ground this season.

‘It so important for a club like this to be on that stage,’ he added. ‘We are going to go in with a game plan and hopefully achieve it over the two legs.

‘We have got to play the game and not the occasion.

‘It is so important for us to be playing in these competitions.’
