Agatha Christie’s Hjerson

More4, 9pm

-

Dedicated readers of the Queen of Crime will know Sven Hjerson from her books as a Finnish detective created by fictional thriller writer Ariadne Oliver (played by Zoë Wanamaker in the Poirot TV series).

This eight-part Swedish-language drama cleverly takes the character of Hjerson and builds a series of mysteries around him. Updated to modern-day Scandinavia, he’s a brilliant criminal profiler who’s forced out of his quiet existence when he has to take a boat to an island in the Baltic after the death of his mother. On board he’s the target of TV producer Klara Sandberg, who’s convinced he can be the star of a true-crime show.

But with the death of a young reporter on the voyage, Klara and Hjerson (Hanna Alsrom and Johan Rheborg, right) are thrown together into an impromptu detective partnership that promises some satisfying Scandi sleuthing. ★★★★★
