Huge Homes With Hugh Dennis

More4, 9pm

-

The world isn’t exactly crying out for another property show, but comedian Hugh Dennis is always congenial company, and now presents a reasonably diverting new series on big but also eccentric homes.

The opening episode’s most remarkable residence is a 40ft former Victorian water tower in Surrey, now transformed by architect Elspeth Beard into her own home. Off the coast of Wales, Dennis finds businessman Mike Conner contending with a constant adventure, eking out an existence in a fortress on the desolate rocky outcrop that is Thorne Island.

Finally there’s a visit to 17th Century Cluny Castle in Aberdeenshire, inherited by young aristocrat Cosmo Gordon (near right with Dennis) as his family home. Dennis quips: ‘Now that is properly large. He’s got turrets and everything.’ ★★★★★
