Take in Northern Lights, or drink in Burgundy delights

WITH the bank holiday weekend signalling the end of summer, here are some super cruises to book for later this year.

- Caroline Hendrie

TICK off two travel adventures on one cruise this winter: seeking the Northern Lights, while sailing on the world’s only ocean liner, Queen Mary 2.

On a break from transatlantic crossings, Cunard’s flagship will sail from Southampton to Tromso, high above the Arctic Circle, staying for three nights for the best chances of experiencing the mesmerising Lights. The 12-night, no-fly Norway & Northern Lights cruise departing on November 1 also calls at Trondheim, Alesund and Stavanger, with four sea days to enjoy sumptuous afternoon teas in the social hub of the ship, Queens Room, tip-top lectures, the planetarium, golf simulator and spa. Fares start at £1,028pp with cruise.co.uk.

Wine-lovers get ready for a special cruise to the heart of

Burgundy. On a trip full of tipples calling at Beaune and Macon, you will go to medieval Beaujeu for a torch-lit walk to welcome in Beaujolais

Nouveau Day, with fireworks and a visit to Le Park du Hameau Duboeuf dedicated to wines and vines.

The five-day cruise on the River Saone, a round trip from Lyon, departs on November 13 and costs from £664pp including drinks and excursions but not travel to Lyon (croisieurope.co.uk).
