Gwynnie’s right – age frees us

-

I can relate to getting older and being less self-conscious than ten years ago – like Gwyneth Paltrow, left, now feels, as you reported last week. It’s quite liberating walking into a room and thinking, who do I like in here, rather than worrying about who likes me.

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I opened up last week’s Mail on Sunday and was confronted with Gwyneth’s bare bottom in an article, below, about how she will spend her 50th birthday. This culture of excessive showing off by celebrities is sickening, especially now, as more people encounter serious hardships in their day-to-day lives.

Gwyneth and I share the same birthday but unfortunately not the same age. I will be 61 years old and, while not being famous in any way, I reckon I look pretty good and still dress to thrill on occasion. She’s inspiring other women to embrace their age, and surely that’s a good thing.

I actually think being 50 is the worst. Any hint of my youth has gone and I’m still a long way away from retirement! Forty may be the new 30 these days, but 50 is just a drag.
