Lord Archer was the Root cause of wicket!

-

JOE ROOT was left fuming at Jeffrey Archer of all people for his part in the former skipper’s downfall at The Oval.

Root, batting nicely on 23, was ready to face South African paceman Marco Jansen’s fourth ball after the tea interval when there was movement behind the bowler’s arm.

Root backed off and asked the offender to sit down — and the offender just happened to be Lord Archer.

The author, former Conservative MP and convicted criminal duly took his seat but Root’s concentration had by now been well and truly broken. And when Jansen charged in seconds later, the England batsman threw the kitchen sink at the delivery only to edge it to Keegan Petersen, who took a stunning catch at third slip.

It was a poor way to go and continued Root’s recent struggles — he has only managed 46 runs across four innings in the series at an average of 11.5.
