John & Joe Bishop: Life After Deaf ITV, 9pm

-

As one of Britain’s most popular comedians, you might have thought that John Bishop has done it all before. But now he’s taking on an extraordinary new challenge: learning British Sign Language in order to perform for a deaf audience.

Bishop’s motivation comes from his oldest son, Joe (right with his dad), who has an auto-immune condition that caused him to lose most of his hearing when he was 15. Now, 12 years on, his deafness has not responded to various treatments that have been tried out over the years, prompting his father to take on this new approach of immersing himself in the deaf community.

Then, in Life After Deaf Stand Up Show (ITV, 10.45pm, not STV), see if Bishop’s months of preparation pay off as he performs using sign language alongside fellow comedians Gavin Lilley, Ray Bradshaw and Leah Francisco.
