Crowds now disrespectful

-

Peter Hitchens was absolutely right in highlighting how sad it is that the police these days need to face the crowds instead of respectfully facing outwards at processions such as the funeral of Her Majesty the Queen.

I would also like to add my criticism of the deplorable trend of applauding funeral processions. This whooping and clapping, instead of bowing your head, is hugely disrespectful.

Frank Allen, Lyme Regis

I disagree with Peter Hitchens about police lining roads for state occasions. I slept out the night before the Queen’s Coronation, at the front in Hyde Park. Police and soldiers stood alternately facing the procession or us.
