Brutal Blonde’s ugly truth
I WATCHED Blonde, the new film about Marilyn Monroe starring Ana de Armas (right). It is beautifully shot but utterly brutal, and anyone expecting a tale of Hollywood glamour will be disappointed.
I’m sure this is why it’s divided opinion among viewers, many of whom are shocked by its bleakness. But what I can’t understand are the howls of protest from women’s charities, which accuse the director of ‘over-sensationalising’ sexual abuse and abortion. All I can say is they can’t have watched it: far from sensationalising these things, the film leaves the viewer in no doubt of the grim consequences of the abuse Marilyn, and many like her, suffered.
