JK cancelled by kids at ultra-woke school
JK ROWLING has been cancelled by pupils at a Scottish school – in a new woke backlash against the Harry Potter author.
For years, one of the school houses at Springburn Academy in Glasgow was named Rowling in honour of the novelist whose stories about the boy wizard became international best-sellers.
However, pupils have now voted to remove her – and rename the house as Thistle. Other house names remained unchanged.
Her removal from the school comes in the wake of an angry debate over gender, transphobia and women’s rights. The author, pictured, has publicly and passionately argued that the automatic right of people to identify as whichever gender they choose undermines decades of advances for feminism.
However, activists have declared her views ‘transphobic’, with some of the stars of the Harry Potter films, including Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe, criticising her position. Springburn Academy, on its website and social media channels, champions the LGBTQ+ community and boasts that teachers have undergone awareness training.
Pupils have been pictured holding a banner proclaiming ‘Springburn Academy supports transgender rights’.
The school states it is working towards achieving the LGBT charter award. Academically, however, the woke secondary has some of the lowest achievement rates in the country, with only one in five pupils gaining five or more Highers.
Last night Glasgow City Council confirmed Rowling had been cancelled at the school.
A spokesman said: ‘Glasgow schools pride themselves on advocating pupil voice and a vote was arranged to decide on the new house name after an approach to senior management from pupils.’
Ms Rowling declined to comment. Her series of seven Harry Potter books have sold more than 400 million copies worldwide.
