Paxman: Putting Up With Parkinson’s
ITV, 9pm
For decades Jeremy Paxman (right) has been a veritable force of nature in British broadcasting, first as an interviewer of rottweiler tenacity on BBC2’s Newsnight, and then as the quizmaster on University Challenge. But the presenter’s life has been changed by Parkinson’s disease, with which he was diagnosed last year.
In this revealing documentary, Paxman lets cameras into his life so that we can see how the condition is affecting him. He opens up about the new challenges he faces as he meets experts who explain the latest research into Parkinson’s (1 in 37 of us are likely to be diagnosed with the condition). He also discovers new activities he can enjoy, including a dance therapy class with the English National Ballet, and experiences the simple joys of the sport of bowls. ★★★★★
