Joan Armatrading: Me Myself I
BBC2, 8.40pm
Named after the singer-songwriter’s (right) sixth album, this fascinating documentary offers insights into her life and career.
Armatrading, who usually steers clear of the media, opens up about her early years in the Caribbean, as well as what happened after her family moved to Birmingham.
Also on the agenda are insights into her first forays into music, how joining the cast of the musical Hair in 1968 changed her life, and her feelings about becoming a star following the release of her first LP.
However, as we learn here, despite her success, Armatrading has also suffered more than her fair share of problems.
Then there’s a chance to see Joan Armatrading At Asylum Chapel (10.30pm), which was recorded last year and features a performance that includes songs from her most recent album, entitled Consequences. ★★★★★
