Gemma’s looking so blooming happy
SHE’S the former Bond girl who was once unsure if she wanted children – but Gemma Arterton now appears to be pregnant.
The actress, 36, was spotted caressing her rounded stomach while chatting to a friend in the bustling Soho area of London.
Wearing a tight black maternity top, leggings and a Burberry trench coat, she appeared in high spirits as she patted the bump with her hand.
The St Trinian’s actress, laughing and joking with friend Elliot Levey last week, is married to Irish actor Rory Keenan, who has appeared in Peaky Blinders.
The couple tied the knot in a secret ceremony in County Wicklow in September 2019.
Arterton, the daughter of a welder and a cleaner, grew up on a council estate in Kent and won a scholarship to train at RADA before going on to star in the Bond film Quantum Of Solace as seductive agent Strawberry Fields in 2008.
The actress, who is yet to officially announce her pregnancy, has said in previous interviews that she was unsure about having children.
‘I don’t think you can ever plan the right, exact time,’ she told The Times in 2013.
‘I don’t feel ready for kids because I want to know that I can come back and still be valuable to the industry. That’s only going to happen when I feel a little bit more accomplished . . . or at least when I’ve accomplished something of which I’m proud.
Arterton revealed similar concerns about juggling children with a career in a 2018 interview with the Telegraph: ‘I’m a neurotic person and a worrier anyway, and I think, “Oh God, when I have kids am I still going to be able to do all this?”
‘When we were kids my mum and my grandmother didn’t work, and I think that made them sad. That has influenced me.’ Arterton, who later wrote a fictional story about a Bond girl who rebuffed the spy’s advances, also said that people were ‘threatened’ by women who did not want children. She declined to comment yesterday.
