WEATHER WATCH
Hurricane activity in the western Atlantic usually peaks from August to October but their development and subsequent impact is far-reaching.
‘Ian’ brought devastation to parts of Florida recently following ‘Fiona’, which hit Puerto Rico and later Nova Scotia.
Strong winds have swept across Britain in the past week but their origins have been sub-tropical, keeping our temperatures around 3C warmer than average so far. This follows a September that for many was cooler and wetter than last year.
The coming week remains very autumnal, with rain and strong winds alternating with sunnier skies and calmer days. Indications are for markedly colder winds and gales to arrive by next weekend.
