Fergie leads tributes to icon Duncan
JOHN DUNCAN, the former Dundee and Tottenham striker who went on to guide Chesterfield to the FA Cup semi-finals in 1997, has died aged 73.
Duncan scored 64 goals in 121 appearances at Dens Park before earning a move to
Spurs, where he was equally prolific with 53 goals in 103 appearances at White Hart Lane. He later played for Derby and Scunthorpe but was best remembered as the manager who led third-tier Chesterfield, then of Division Two, to the last four of the FA Cup in 1997 where they lost in a replay to Middlesbrough.
Sir Alex Ferguson said: ‘That was a fantastic achievement. John had such humility and a great sense of humour. I will miss him.’
