PR revamp badly needed at Ibrox
SO, Rangers are on the lookout for a new director of communications then? Given the shoddy operation they will be taking over, it shouldn’t be too difficult for the new recruit to bring about some improvements.
First off, don’t talk about boosting communications with supporters while sticking state-of-the-nation addresses by directors behind paywalls. Punters at Ibrox know they are being milked mercilessly at every turn as it is.
It isn’t a good idea to build on that by mugging them off with a round of interviews, as Rangers did recently, claiming that money from the Champions League isn’t everything it’s cracked up to be with the subtext that you’re daft to expect much from the £180 threegame package you bought.
Neither is letting marketing bod James Bisgrove loose to tell them he is ‘disappointed’ by their reaction to Rangers being used as a down-the-bill support act at the Ange Postecoglou Homecoming Super Series in Sydney.
Boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst being allowed to speak freely rather than restricting podcasters and reporters in media calls to one question at a time would help too. The Dutchman is doomed, but he needs a PR revamp to make the rest of his time at the helm less painful.
Oh, yes. You can’t be turning the ship round with a grey man like Stewart Robertson as the public face of the club either. The new PR person needs to see if the board are sensible enough to get a proper managing director or CEO through the door.
And that’s it. Job done. Easy!
