The Larkins
ITV, 8pm
This is what Sunday nights were made for: fine prime-time entertainment that all the family can enjoy. As the second series begins, we're back in the 1950s idyll of bucolic light comedy adapted from the much-loved books by H.E. Bates.
This week's opening episode sees Pop Larkin (Bradley Walsh) up to his usual tricks with a canny bit of business that results in the sale for a tidy profit of a hopelessly crumbling mansion.
Unfortunately, the new owners, Pinkie Jerebohm (Morgana Robinson) and her husband (Julian Rhind-Tutt), turn out to be the worst sort of snobs – setting up a fresh opportunity for Pop and Ma (Jo Scanlan, right with Walsh) to get one over on those who deserve it most. Meanwhile, could the arrival of a handsome young vicar herald newfound romance for the Larkins' teenage daughter Primrose? ★★★★★
